The spirit of cherishing old things - 古いものを大切にする心 -

When Sawami lived in Japan, her mother, who was a tea ceremony teacher, used to buy very old tea caddies from antique shops. Some of the very old shifuku that came with a tea caddy, such as those from the Edo period, were really worn out, so she dismantled them, created paper patterns, and made new shifuku. While reflecting on these memories, Sawami wanted to cherish the spirit of old things and started making shifuku again in New York, and still continues making it.

沢美が以前日本に住んでいたとき、茶道の先生だった母親は骨董店でとても古い茶入れを買っていました。 江戸時代のものなど、茶入れに付いていたとても古い仕覆はかなりボロボロだったので、解体して型紙を作り、新しい仕覆を作りました。 そんな思い出を振り返りながら、古いものを大事にする心を大切にしたいと、再びニューヨークで仕覆を作り始め、今も作り続けてます。
